The 12th Symposium of New Supramolecular Substances will be held in Lanzhou, China, from April 17 to 20, 2026. The symposium is organized by the College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Northwest Normal University, and the Key Laboratory of Eco-Functional Polymer Materials of the Ministry of Education.
The creation of new substances provides a crucial material foundation for the development of human civilization. As an indispensable component in the multilevel construction of new substances, the creation of new supramolecular substances has attracted increasing attention. In recent years, research on new supramolecular substances in China has achieved substantial progress, leading to a series of significant achievements.
This symposium represents the continuation and development of the Symposium on Macrocyclic Arene Supramolecular Chemistry, which has been successfully held eleven times. Upholding the principles of continuity and development, the symposium has undergone several name changes in response to advances in the discipline, from the First Symposium on Pillararene Supramolecular Chemistry in 2011, to the Fifth Symposium on Arene Supramolecular Chemistry in 2015, and subsequently the Symposium on Macrocyclic Arene Supramolecular Chemistry from 2016 onward.
With the continuous expansion of research topics on macrocyclic arenes and an increasing emphasis on interdisciplinary integration to enable the creation of new supramolecular substances, as well as the
growing diversity of research fields represented by participants, the symposium was officially renamed the Symposium of New Supramolecular Substances starting in 2025.
The theme of this symposium is “Creation of New Supramolecular Substances: New Opportunities for Sustainable Development.” The meeting will focus on both fundamental and applied research related to new supramolecular substances, aiming to promote in-depth academic discussions, strengthen collaboration among research groups from different institutions, and enhance interactions between academia and industry. The symposium seeks to stimulate emerging interdisciplinary research topics at the intersection of supramolecular science with materials science, environmental science, pharmacy, biology, medicine, and energy science, thereby accelerating the development of research on new supramolecular substances in China and contributing to national goals of green and sustainable development.
Building upon the fine traditions of the previous eleven symposia, the organizing committee is committed to providing a high-quality platform for academic exchange and cooperation for experts, scholars, and industry representatives. We warmly welcome experts, scholars, and industry representatives from China and abroad who are engaged in research related to new supramolecular substances to gather in Lanzhou, Gansu Province, and participate in this symposium. We sincerely appreciate your support and look forward to your participation.
